Kingsley Biography
Lives and works in Palm Springs, CA. Statement What an artist paints is not always up to him. One may be influenced by: people, galleries, exhibitions, money to eat, what people like, or, simply, ‘will this sell?’ An artist must take courage and have integrity to create something new, and wonderful. Quite literally, ‘to kick a hole in the art world.’

Kingsley Biography
Kai Kingsley III (b.1946) is an American painter whose practice spans five decades. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he has developed a singular visual language grounded in mark-making, reduction, and repetition, moving fluidly between abstraction and figuration while remaining independent of prevailing trends. He lives and works in Palm Springs, CA.
Kingsley studied at Fairleigh Dickinson University, served in the United States Army, and received his B.A. from the University of Maryland in 1974. He continued postgraduate study at Towson State University, St. Thomas University Seminary in Denver, and the Naropa Institute in Boulder, where his engagement with psychology, philosophy, and contemplative thought further informed the intellectual foundation of his work.
Over the course of his career, Kingsley has exhibited in the United States, Europe, and Asia, with notable presentations in Santa Fe, Honolulu, Chicago, Denver, Bangkok, Hua Hin, Munich, Bern, and Palm Springs. His work has been shown at venues including the Contemporary Museum, Honolulu; the Queen’s Museum Gallery, Bangkok; River City Exhibition Hall, Bangkok: Jean Albano Gallery, Chicago; and galleries in Switzerland, Germany, New Mexico, Hawaii and Thailand.
His work has also been recognized in a range of publications, including the Bangkok Post, Fine Art Magazine, The Santa Fe New Mexican, National Geographic Traveler, Denver Post, and regional and international arts publications.
Kingsley’s practice is defined by a sustained commitment to formal inquiry rather than stylistic conformity. Across five decades, he has built a body of work distinguished by internal rigor, visual invention, and an enduring belief that painting remains a site for discovery.
